Weather Alert – U.S. Embassy Port-Au-Prince

Location:  Haiti. 

Event:  The National Hurricane Center (NHC) and Haiti-Meteo advise that Tropical Storm Elsa is headed towards the Eastern Caribbean.  Winds are currently 40 mph and may strengthen as the storm proceeds.  Tropical storm conditions are expected beginning early Friday in portions of the Windward and southern Leeward Islands.

There is a risk of wind and rainfall impacts in portions of the Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico, the Dominican Republic, Haiti, Cuba, the Turks and Caicos and southeastern Bahamas through early next week.  Interests in these areas should monitor the system’s progress and updates to the forecast (

  • Contact police or other authorities if you encounter dangerous conditions – and follow warnings and directions provided.
