Storytelling Commemorates Washington’s Birthday

To commemorate Washington’s Birthday, the U.S. Embassy recently organized a storytelling session at the primary school “Les Petpresident-day-storytellingits Soleils” in Port-au-Prince.  The children received their own copies of a French language book published by Nouveaux Horizons titled “Le Mont Rushmore.”

Besides discovering the first president of the United States,  the students delighted in learning about the three other famous faces on the spectacular monuments,  presidents Jefferson, Lincoln and Roosevelt, and about the contributions each made to their country.   The participants commented on one man’s dream to turn a mountain into a testimony to history and talked about some of the well known monuments in Haiti which also pay tribute to glorious ancestors.girls-with-books
