U.S. Embassy, Port-au-Prince, Haiti
Very stormy weather expected for this weekend (May 27-30, 2016)
The Embassy would like to inform U.S. Citizens that this weekend’s weather promises to be stormy and overcast, throughout the country. Temperatures will probably decline this Sunday, May 29. Forecasters are monitoring a disturbance that has a chance (approximately 70%) to become the second storm of the Atlantic hurricane season.
A few days before the arrival of the hurricane season ( June 1st will mark the beginning of the 2016 season), there is a possible early hurricane arrival. This follows Hurricane Alex, which formed in January in the Atlantic Northeast and moved through the Azores before weakening. It is noted that the low pressure area is centered between Bermuda and the Bahamas.
“Environmental conditions are expected to become more conducive to a tropical cyclone or subtropical by this Friday or Saturday, as the storm moves to the West-North-West or Northwest towards the southeast coast of the United States,” according to the National Hurricane Centre (NHC) (http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/) in Miami. Plan accordingly and be vigilant.
