Security Alert:  U.S. Embassy Port-au-Prince, Haiti (October 25, 2021)

Location:  Haiti

Events:  The U.S. Embassy in Port-au-Prince has rescheduled all routine appointments through Friday, October 29, 2021.  The embassy remains open for emergency services for U.S. Citizens in Haiti.  Please avoid all unnecessary travel as the security situation continues to be highly unpredictable.

As a reminder, Haiti has the highest (Level 4) Travel Advisory (“Do Not Travel”) for kidnapping, crime, civil unrest, and COVID-19.  The travel advisory for Haiti, available at travel.state.gov, notes that kidnapping is widespread and victims regularly include U.S. citizens.  Those deciding to travel and/or remain in Haiti should carefully consider the information available on travel.state.gov.

Actions to take:

  • Avoid all non-essential travel to Haiti;
  •  Use extreme caution while traveling in the country;
  • Avoid demonstration and crowds;
  • Do not attempt to drive through roadblocks – if you encounter a roadblock, turn around and get to a safe area;
  • Monitor local media for breaking events.
