Security Alert – U.S. Embassy Port-au-Prince, Haiti (February 16, 2019)
Locations:
In the area of Bon Repos on Route National 3 leading to Hinche (Central Department),
Roadblock in Mirebalais (Central Department)
Roadblock at Verrettes (Artibonite Department)
Events: Reports of roadblocks, protests, gunfire and reports of ransoming motorbikes in the aforementioned areas. The security situation remains fluid and roadblocks/protests continue to be established with little to no warning. Haitian National Police is handling situations as they arise, however, the public transportation system continues to operate below normal levels.
Actions to take:
Avoid the areas;
Avoid demonstrations and any large gatherings of people;
Do not attempt to drive through roadblocks; and
If you encounter a roadblock, turn around and get to a safe area.
