The U.S. Embassy has received a report of a planned demonstration in downtown today. Possible itinerary: Avenue John Brown (Lalue) – Rue Capois, Rue Chavannes – Rue Magloire Ambroise – Rue Oswald Durand – Rue des Casernes – Boulevard La Saline – Place d’Italie – Champ-de-Mars(final). Please keep in mind that large gatherings in Haiti, even peaceful ones, can escalate quickly and even turn violent, so the Embassy urges all U.S. citizens to remain vigilant, be aware of their surroundings, and avoid these areas as much as possible.
Even demonstrations intended to be peaceful can turn confrontational and escalate into violence. You should avoid areas of demonstrations, and exercise caution if in the vicinity of any large gatherings, protests, or demonstrations.
