The U.S. Embassy has received information regarding planned demonstrations today in Cap-Haitian and Jeremie. The demonstration in Cap-Haitian is scheduled to begin around 10:00 a.m. in the area of Rue 24 Boulevard ( near Feu Vert Night Club). At this time, there is no further information about the planned demonstration in Jeremie. Please keep in mind that large gatherings in Haiti, even peaceful ones, can escalate quickly and even turn violent, so the Embassy urges all U.S. citizens to remain vigilant, be aware of their surroundings, and avoid these areas as much as possible.
Even demonstrations intended to be peaceful can turn confrontational and escalate into violence. You should avoid areas of demonstrations, and exercise caution if in the vicinity of any large gatherings, protests, or demonstrations.
