On December 16, Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Western Hemisphere Affairs Cynthia Kierscht convened a meeting in Miami with Ambassador to Haiti Michele Sison, Ambassador to the Dominican Republic Robin Bernstein, and representatives of private sector associations from Haiti and the Dominican Republic to discuss the elements necessary to produce a business enabling environment on both sides of the border.
The discussion focused on specific steps the private sectors can take to increase formal trade, decrease informal trade and smuggling, and promote investment. The group agreed to meet again in the near future to continue the forward-leaning discussions on how to best promote shared prosperity in the region.
