Public Diplomacy

The Office of Public Diplomacy seeks to inform the Haitian public on U.S. governmental policies and increase understanding of American society values.  To accomplish this mission, the office disseminates authoritative information on the United States. It also works to strengthen the U.S.-Haiti relationship through a variety of cultural exchanges, speaker programs, professional study tours, scholarships, and other activities of interest to Haitians that increase mutual understanding.

The office consists of:

  • The Information Section, which issues official embassy statements and provides U.S. policy information. Press should contact the Information Office by dialing 22 29 8000
  • The Cultural Affairs Section, which organizes programs to share U.S. values and expertise with interested Haitian audiences;
  • The Information Resource Center (IRC), which provides research assistance into American policy history, business and values.
  • The Harold Courlander American Corner at FOKAL offers English-language reading materials, internet access and cultural events to the public.
  • EducationUSA provides guidance on higher education opportunities in the U.S. to qualified candidates.
  • Is your group seeking a guest speaker?  The embassy’s Speakers Bureau pairs diplomats posted in Haiti with local groups for special events.
  • Have you participated in an educational or cultural exchange program in the U.S.?  The Alumni Affairs Coordinator promotes greater contact, coordination and programming amongst alumni of U.S.-government funded programs.
