Demonstrations Planned for Friday, January 29 and Saturday, January 30, 2016

The Embassy has received reports that demonstrations are planned for Friday, January 29 and Saturday, January 30, 2016, with the following proposed routes:

Friday, January 29, 2016:
Départ Église Saint Jean Bosco, Carrefour Péan, Bel-Air; Rue Tiremasse; Rue St Martin; Carrefour Aviation; Delmas 2 ; Delmas 18 ; Carrefour Delmas Aéroport ; Nazon; Rue Fernand devant Natcom; Faustin 1er devant Canalsat; Turgeau devant Digicel et Marriott Hôtel; Turgeau devant Église Sacré-Cœur; Rue Marcelin ;  Rue Chavannes devant Radio Caraïbes ; Marché Salomon devant Relax Band; Rue Oswald Durand; Rue de l’Enterrement; Rue Joseph Janvier devant EDH; Bicentenaire devant Parquet de Port-au-Prince; Bicentenaire devant Parlement; Rue des Casernes; Palais National.

Saturday, January 30, 2016:
Départ Carrefour Péan; Église Perpétuelle Secours; Rue Montalais; Rue de la Réunion; Rue Pavée; Rue Oswald Durand; Rue Monseigneur Guilloux; Route des Dalles; Eglise Wesleyenne; Église St Gérard; Rue Capois; Faculté Ethnologie; Palais National.

All American Citizens are advised to avoid these areas. Please keep in mind that demonstrations in Haiti, even peaceful ones, can escalate quickly and even turn violent, so the Embassy urges all U.S. citizens to remain vigilant, be aware of their surroundings, and avoid this area as much as possible.  Should you find yourself among or near protesters, depart the area immediately.

Even demonstrations intended to be peaceful can turn confrontational and escalate into violence.  You should avoid areas of demonstrations, and exercise caution if in the vicinity of any large gatherings, protests, or demonstrations.
